I should start off by admitting that this course is not at all what I expected it to be. I imagined the square story boards from my high school programming class, and lectures to listen to once a week about how to, quite literally, create a story.
Even though this class is not what I believed it to be, I am still excited for it. I have never used Twitter, Domain of One’s Own, or Soundcloud (woo I have three followers on Twitter) Maybe we can make it four here. I am excited to use new forms of social media, but I’m not sure that I’ll ever be a big Twitter fan. I am kind of a fan of Instagram (although Facebook is still the best), and my user on all of these social medias (Except YouTube) is @sam_ara106
I am so proud of myself for figuring out Domain of One’s Own. I don’t think we should even talk about how long it took me to figure out how to add a post (it was an hour). There are still many things I don’t know about it, but at least I’m able to post this!
This week was a lot about coming out of my shell. Posting a video of myself on YouTube going through my backpack and talking about potential uses for the apocalypse could seem quite crazy to any of the millions of people who might watch it, but once I hit the record button, I was able to get through it just fine. Of course, I made a new YouTube channel for the video. It’s not what you think, future employers!
I am very interested in finding out how the apocalypse will tie in throughout the semester, especially since I have never spent much time thinking about it.
My personal relationship with the apocalypse is basically nothing. I saw a few episodes of The Walking Dead and have watched a few movies such as World War Z (I meant to have more examples, but I didn’t love them enough to remember the titles). I never did like The Walking Dead because of the repetitive plot, but I find the concept of zombies interesting as to how people could become more animal-like or inhuman because of a virus or everyone being on their cellphone at the same time (I saw about two minutes of this movie as I walked from the kitchen to my room, but it seemed cool and I could easily see it happening).
I find pandemics the most interesting (which often lead to zombies/zombie-like behavior), mostly because I can see it in the future. I’m not sure about aliens coming to Earth and trying to take over the world, but I can see humans wiping out the human race as we know it today.
